| In
common with most equine vets we offer a full ambulatory service.
We will visit you and your horses and offer advice, medical and
in certain circumstances even surgical treatment at your premises
or at livery yard. We have decided to expand and improve the services
we can offer our clients by developing a clinic where we can work
in comfort and safety within a facility designed for efficient veterinary
use.
1)
We have indoor stabling. We find horses staying with us settle
remarkably well because the boxes are in a quiet location and
they cannot see any animals coming or going. We bed on shavings
to avoid colics and respiratory problems, and supply a new bed
for every patient. We generally feed horsehage unless a lower
plane of nutrition is indicated, when we use soaked hay. The boxes
are secured with catches to stop horses undoing their own bolts
and are contained within a barn which has lockable doors. Our
livery rates range between £10 and £15 plus vat per
day depending on the size of the horse or pony and the amount
of bedding and forage used. Livery fees basically cover costs
only. We do not attempt to make profits from keeping horses in.
As livery fees are not covered by insurance (except NFU who pay
50%) we keep them very competitive.

2)
Examinations including physical examination, ultrasonography and
radiography take place within designated areas under cover.
Horses and ponies are generally lightly sedated to ensure their
full cooperation. We have as few people in the examination area
as possible. Peace and quiet are vital factors in successful diagnostic
activities! Sometimes owners are allowed to hold their horses
during examinations but we have to adhere strictly to health and
safety protocols. Anyone working within an area where ionising
is being used will have to wear a radiation monitor and a lead
coat. They must be at least 18 years old and non-pregnant.
3) For lameness exams we can trot up on the road or on
an all weather track, which has good drainage, ironstone on top
and is frequently rolled. We have an all weather 10-meter trotting
circle which is a real help in assessing gait. We can video horses
action for future reference.
4) We have on site automatic processing of radiographs
and can discuss findings with clients shortly after radiography
has been completed.
5) The clinic maintains computer case histories for every
patient. Communication with our efficient accounts staff is by
e-mail.
6) We have direct access to our own laboratory facility
for same day lab results (in most cases)
