Nick Bowen
has always had a passionate interest in horses. There was a suggestion
that he might study medicine but in reality he was always destined
to be a horse doctor. Pony clubbing, affiliated show jumping and
hunting with the Dartmoor kept him occupied before veterinary school.
After qualifying in 1977, he gained his basic experience with eminent
equine vets like Peter Thorne, Bob Baskerville and John Walmsley.
A spell of point to point racing ended shortly after the establishment
of his own practice in 1985. In 1986 he acquired a second practice
and gained a postgraduate qualification in equine work. Since then
he has concentrated on building up the horse side of the business;
most recently developing an equine facility at his home.
His wife Janet runs the yard and has two horses for dressage and
showing. Their two children Jessica and Sebastian, 6 & 5 respectively
are very keen and have already been 'in the money' at local shows.
Nick's particular interests are examination for purchase, lameness
investigation and studwork.
Nick has attended various courses this year, inc a BEVA cardiology course, a seminar on racecourse casualty managment and the BEVA congress in Birmingham. |
